The Long and Short of it...

Me: "So, how about wearing shorts today? It's lovely and warm..."

Boy #2: "Weeeeeellll... Can I see them?"

I show him a pair of navy blue knee-length Gap shorts inherited from his older brother. (Thank god for shorts, by the way; at least they can't go at the knees). He looks at them critically; it's the first time they've seen the light of day this year and after a winter in snowsuits and thick trousers, they're probably not something he remembers.

Boy #2: "OK.

I help him put them on. He stands up as I do up the button, and glances down, then lets out an almighty wail.

Me: "What? What's the matter Boy #2? Use your words, what's the matter?"

Boy #2: "But... But... But..."

Me: "What?"

Boy #2: "But... what about the REST of my legs?"

Needless to say, he's wearing trousers today...

  2. Aw bless - Toddlergirl is the opposite, she's refusing to wear tights and keeps pulling her shorts out of the drawer (and it is not warm here)

  5. We had that the other day with a T-shirt. Littleboy 2 kept trying to pull the arms down over the rest of his arms and saying 'why is my top cut?'.

Summer clothes, who knew they could be such a trial....

  6. We were in the car the other day and my son, who is 17 months old, kept saying 'uck, uck' (stuck). I turn around and ask him what was stuck? He's sitting in his car seat trying to pull down his shorts, thinking they were pants and had gone too high. I laughed and said, 'oh honey those are shorts and sometimes you will see your knees when your sitting down.' He seemed okay with that answer as I tickled his knees.

  8. MH, well, if it's any consolation this conversation took place yesterday and it's blxxdy freezing here today!

GS, don't we all? (Shorts are Looooooong ago in my past, I can tell you!)

    MAM, maybe tights under shorts?

MWA, you're probably right. Time to more somewhere warmer? (But it will be so much less entertaining)

LM, I'm brandishing a pair of sewing scissors over Boy#2's jeans as we speak.

NVG, well at least they HAVE some; all my summer clothes are still in the UK!

Sarah, you toddler accepts direction? You're blessed...

Frog, am fine and will be over shortly! x

  10. Yes, we're into shorts now. The man-child has grown so much in the past year that all his cargo shorts are way above his knees, which is not cool man. 9pm emergency trip to Old Navy last night!

  11. Russia does that really cold winter to pretty warm summer in about 2 weeks thing as well? It's a shock being in England. What is this grotty inbetween state? We are so far from shorts weather here.

Wish we could spend more time in shorts. Fed up with the holes in knee thing!

  12. Oh, PM, didn't anyone tell you? You're meant to leave the child's legs as they are. You're not meant to chop them off at the knee, just because of the shorts. Yikes. Hope there are good surgeons over there in Moscow.

  13. No legs! They don't wear shorts with legs in Russia. What? Wait a minute? What was I talking about?

Seriously...that kid has been out of shorts for awhile.
